Candle light vigil in memory of Dr Siras- Thrissur- 11th of April- 5pm

A candlelight ceremony is being held in memory of Dr Srinivas Ramchandra Siras. He was a reader and chairman of the department of Modern Indian Languages at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). A few months ago, Siras was filmed having consensual sex with another adult male at his home and subsequently suspended by AMU. On April 2, Allahabad High Court stayed the suspension. However on 8th of April he was found dead in mysterious circumstances at his home where he had to stay after the suspension.

It is immaterial whether he committed suicide or sustained a heart attack. But he was another victim of moral policing and the perpetual violence towards sexual minorities communities in India.

Venue: in front of corporation office, municipal bus stand Thrissur
